Bringing Drugs or Other Contraband into a Jail: Oklahoma Law
All of the following contraband is illegal to bring into a jail or any other place in which prisoners are located:
- gun
- knife
- bomb
- dangerous instrument
- controlled dangerous substance (drugs)
- alcoholic beverage
- money
- another’s financial documents

Bringing in, or being in possession of, any of these items inside a jail without authority is a felony. OUJI-CR 6-55
Penalty for Bringing Drugs into a Jail
The crime is punishable by a prison term of as little as one year to as many as 15 years. And you could be fined as little as $100 to as much as $1,000.
Any inmate found in possession of any item of prohibited contraband will also be charged with a felony punishable by a prison term from as little as five years to as many as 20 years. Multiple violations by an inmate may lead to a prison term of as few as 20 years in addition to the time they are already serving.
Other Types of Contraband
Ipads, computers and cell phones are all prohibited as well. Any electronic device capable of sending or receiving messages or calls is chargeable as a felony if you bring any of those items into a jail. The crime is punishable by as many as two years in prison. And you could be fined as much as $2,500. Okla. Stat. tit. 57 § 21
Bringing in tobacco products such as cigarettes, cigars, snuff and vaping products is a misdemeanor punishable by as much as one year in the county jail. And you could be fined as much as $500 if you are caught.
